National Aviation Day was created by President Roosevelt in 1939 as a way to pay tribute to the advancements and milestones in aviation. It's no coincidence that this special holiday lands on Orville Wright's birthday. With the help of his brother Wilbur, Orville is credited with being the first person to successfully fly. This flight took place in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17, 1903 with a flying machine that was developed into the first fixed-wing flying aircraft. Mercedes-Benz has also contributed to the advancements in aviation. The three-pointed star signifies Daimler's ambition of universal motorization by land, sea, and air. This has resulted in many engine technologies and even production of air crafts briefly in the early 20th century.
